Recently, the Vice Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Equatorial Guinea, Sabadel, and his party came to the Agricultural Resources Research Center of the Institute of Genetics and Development of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Shijiazhuang, Hebei Province.

Sabader expressed appreciation for the development and achievements of the Agricultural Resources Research Center in agriculture and personnel training. The talks will be a good opportunity for cooperation between the two sides. The center has advanced agricultural technology and is believed to provide great assistance to Equatorial Guinea in increasing grain production. It is hoped that both sides will start as soon as possible in agricultural breeding, technology promotion and personnel training. Cooperation. Mercana, director of the Science and Technology Innovation Division of the Equatorial Guinea Science Committee, expressed his expectation for the visit.

Science and technology aids to start with food

Equatorial Guinea is located in the Midwest of Africa and west of the Atlantic Ocean. They came to Shijiazhuang after seeing the results of the Central African Center in Kenya.

As part of the international science and technology cooperation along the Belt and Road of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, as early as March 2014, the Agricultural Resources Research Center, based on the China-Africa Joint Center, carried out research projects on protective agriculture and high-yield technologies in semi-arid areas of Kenya.

Starting from food and solving the most basic survival problems of the poverty-stricken countries in the Belt and Road, it is conducive to promoting the common vision of building a Belt and Road initiative from a strategic perspective. Hu Chunsheng, director of the Agricultural Resources Research Center, said.

The Agricultural Resources Research Center has established a partnership with the Agricultural College of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in Nairobi, Kenya, which has opened up a hectare of experimental fields and opened the prelude to bringing modern agricultural technology to Kenya.

There is an old saying in China that it is better to teach people to fish than to teach people to fish. Talking about the research experience in Kenya, Li Xiaoxin, the Agricultural Resources Research Center, admitted that he had both a sad heart and a smile. Kenya basically does not have its own agricultural machinery industry. The mechanization level in the food planting process is low. It is not only time-consuming and labor-intensive, but the quality of planting is not high. It often misses the best time for planting, but the optimism of the Kenyan people naturally impressed me. Li Xiaoxin said.

In this way, under the condition of almost no agricultural machinery, the research team of the Agricultural Resources Research Center handed the local Kenyan farmers to screen and demonstrate corn, millet, sorghum, rice and more than three years from overturning and sowing to mulching. More than 70 varieties of stress-resistant and high-yield varieties such as grapes have demonstrated high-yield cultivation techniques such as soil testing and fertilization, dry farming, organic fertilization, grape cutting, rice breeding, and conservation tillage, and crop yields have increased by more than 30%.

In nearly 10 exchanges with Kenya, the technical model of the Agricultural Resources Research Center has been fully affirmed by Kenya, and the seeds of science and technology to promote the construction of the Belt and Road have been planted on the land of Africa.

Deep-growing CMB salt agriculture

Pakistan is an agricultural country and drought is a serious problem, especially under the instability caused by climate change. The words of Muhammad AtharHaroon, an international student from Pakistan, tell the general problems faced by the South Asian countries. Before coming to China, Haroon worked at the Pakistan Meteorological Bureau.

He recalled that from 1999 to 2003, the abnormal drought shrouded the Indian peninsula, which had a serious impact on cash crops and social development including Pakistan, India and Thailand. Soil salinization has become one of the main factors restricting agricultural development in arid and semi-arid regions. Both China and Pakistan have large areas of salinized land and are facing water shortages.

As early as 2003, the Agricultural Resources Research Center had jointly applied with the Karachi University of Pakistan to undertake the research on the sustainable utilization of halophytes in the long-term research and development project between the Chinese and Pakistani governments. It took three years to fully exploit the salt-tolerant salt tolerance. Economic plants promote agricultural development and ecological environment improvement in saline areas. Since the implementation of the project, scientists from both sides have carried out a series of fruitful cooperation.

On June 27, 2005, the two sides officially signed a cooperation agreement in Islamabad. The former deputy director of the International Cooperation Bureau of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ge Mingyi and the Executive Director of the Pakistan Higher Education Commission Naqvi attended the signing ceremony. After that, the two sides maintained frequent cooperation and exchanges.

We have carried out cooperative research from the introduction and screening of salt-tolerant economic plants, the salt-tolerant mechanism of plants, and the planting demonstration of salt-tolerant economic plants, and selected a number of halophytes with certain economic value for pasture, vegetables, greening, etc. In order to solve the agricultural development and ecological environment in the saline area, we have found a way. Liu Xiaojing, deputy director of the Agricultural Resources Research Center, said.

Based on this project, scientists from both sides of China and Pakistan jointly published a number of high-level research papers and held three academic exchanges. Ten batches of personnel exchanged visits and established a profound friendship, which greatly promoted the cooperation between the two sides. . On this basis, the two sides jointly established the Institute of Halophytes at the University of Karachi, and established the Hebei Provincial Engineering Laboratory for the Innovation of Resistant Plant Breeding and Germplasm Resources at the Agricultural Resources Research Center.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences attaches great importance to the cooperation between the two sides and regards it as a model for the Chinese Academy of Sciences in China-Pakistan cooperation.

Tibetan food in technical aid Africa

The International Food Policy Research Institute's 2016 Global Hunger Index study shows that many African countries have the highest hunger index in the world. In February 2017, the President of Kenya declared the drought in the country a national disaster.

In Hu Chunsheng's view, the implementation of the Ministry of Commerce's aid construction and the construction of a China-Kenya Modern Agriculture Demonstration Center is undoubtedly a good solution to the food problem in Kenya and Africa.

There is a great similarity between China and Kenya. The construction of the China-Kenya Modern Agriculture Demonstration Center is not only in line with China's Belt and Road Initiative, but also can demonstrate and promote the successful experience and advanced technology accumulated in China for more than 40 years in Kenya and even in Africa. To make effective contributions to the relief of food security issues in African countries such as Kenya. Hu Chunsheng said.

For a long time, the Agricultural Resources Research Center has been committed to the research, key technology development and engineering applications of new varieties cultivation, soil fertility improvement, high-efficiency water use and high-yield cultivation, and has achieved a series of innovative results. Experience and capabilities in scale agricultural technology demonstration.

Scientific and technological cooperation is an important part of promoting the construction of the Belt and Road. It is the unshirkable responsibility of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to organize countries and regions along the Belt and Road to jointly study and solve major challenges and problems in development. On May 9, 2017, Chinese Academy of Sciences Dean Bai Chunli said at the press conference on the construction of the Science and Technology Support Belt and Road in the State Council Information Office.

The Agricultural Resources Research Center actively promotes the One Belt and One Road science and technology work, not only actively responding to the requirements of the three-party and four-stage new-stage hospitality guidelines of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, but also meeting the real-world technological needs of many developing countries and regions along the Belt and Road. It is of great significance to enhance the well-being of people's livelihood. Zhao Jun, secretary of the Party Committee of the Agricultural Resources Research Center, said.
